In April 2026, he spearheaded efforts to successfully overturn a 20-year federal mineral withdrawal, aiming to allow a proposed copper-nickel sulfide mine near the sensitive watershed despite concerns over tribal treaty rights and drinking water contamination.

Key Talking Points Against Congressman Stauber: 

  • After nearly 10 years in Washington, Congressman Stauber is now part of the problem. Stauber stopped looking out for working Minnesotans and sold us out to powerful corporate interests. 

  • Congressman Stauber took hundreds of thousands of dollars from corporate PACs and DC lobbyists and then took their side instead of looking out for Minnesota families. 

  • Congressman Stauber led the effort to let a foreign-based company start mining copper in Minnesota’s Boundary Waters watershed, threatening to pollute pristine fishing and hunting areas and make the drinking water toxic. This would devastate a region used by Minnesotans for different outdoor recreation and is a huge economic engine for the region. 

  • Even worse, Congressman Stauber would allow the foreign company controlled by a Chilean billionaire to ship the mined Copper to China rather than keeping it here in America, forcing us to pay more for our own extracted minerals. 

  • Congressman Stauber repeatedly voted to cut Social Security and Medicare, including a bill the Trump Administration said was a “backdoor to privatizing Social Security” which would give benefits seniors earned to Wall Street to gamble on the stock market.
